Schizas and Daleman lead at Skate Canada International

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Canada’s Madeline Schizas and Gabrielle Daleman take first and second place respectively after presenting the women’s short programs at Skate Canada International.

Schizas, who is from Oakville, Ontario and is 19, received a score of 67.90 for her performance on the Black Swan soundtrack.

Daleman, 24, also appeared in Rihanna’s Diamonds. The Newmarket, Ontario native received a score of 66.65 points.

Daleman is competing in her first Grand Prix since 2019 when she placed 10th at Skate Canada International. She has twice competed in the Olympics and is a bronze medalist at the World Championships.

American Ava Marie Ziegler is third with 66.49.

Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier lead after their rhythm dance; the Japanese Kao Miura is in charge of the men.

Gilles and Poirier, both 30, achieved a personal best (87.23) thanks to a program performed to the accompaniment of rumba.

The Brits Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson are in second place ahead of the Americans Caroline Green and Michael Parsons.

Miura posted a score of 94.06, eclipsing fellow countryman Shoma Uno and Italy’s Matteo Rizzo.

Canadian Keegan Messing is fourth with 79.69.

As a pair, Japan’s Riku Miura and Ryuichi Kihara are leaders; Canadians Brooke McIntosh and Benjamin Mimar are in fourth place.

McIntosh is the sister of Summer, a star swimmer.
