This future geothermal complex in Quebec is directly inspired by Iceland’s famous Blue Lagoon.
The largest geothermal lagoon in the world with an area of almost 12,000 m2. It is the somewhat crazy project of Canadian businessman Louis Massicotte, who wants to invest a total of 300 million dollars.
Inspired by Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, which was included in National Geographic’s list of the 25 Wonders of the World, this modern lagoon was christened gelagoon is to see the light of day in the Petite-Rivière-Saint-François region near Charlevoix. A patented process is said to keep the water at 38 °C with the help of solar and earth energy.
According to the promoters, the project should be environmentally neutral. 150 chalets will surround the lagoon. Thanks to their photovoltaic and thermal coating, these will generate a significant amount of energy.
Of course, the chalets are heated with hot air from the lagoon and the lagoon is heated with geothermal, solar and biomass, not to mention hydroelectric power, which will be an additional alternative if required.
For the water supply, it is planned to collect and filter rainwater.
The project is conditioned by the presale of 150 chalets.
If successful, the organizer plans to build three more holiday villages in Canada based on the same principle.
