Hockey Canada on Wednesday announced the identities of the 24 players invited to play in the second leg of the Rivalry Series, and three Quebecers will have the opportunity to take part in the war effort against the Americans.
Head coach Troy Ryan pleaded for continuity in his staff selection, even as the Canadian side lost their flag in the first three matches of this series that earlier decided between the two great powers of women’s hockey.
As a result, only two athletes were able to make their debuts on the Ahornblatt team: defender Megan Carter and forward Danielle Serdachny.
No less than 18 players who took part in the first duels of the Rivalry Series and 16 who triumphed at the 2022 Winter Olympics will be in the game.
Once again, only three Quebecers will be in the squad. Goalkeeper Ann-Renée Desbiens and forwards Élizabeth Giguère and Marie-Philip Poulin have received an invitation.
“We’ve assembled a whole group with new faces and new combinations for these next two meetings,” said head of hockey activities Gina Kingsbury in a press release. The depth of the women’s program allows us to continue evaluating our team as we approach the next women’s worlds. We expect more hard-fought duels against the Americans.”
So far, the Canadian team has lost against the Americans 3:4, 1:2 and 2:4. She will try to recover from December 15 in Henderson, Nevada, as well as October 19 in Los Angeles.
The last two duels of this series will take place on Canadian soil in early 2023. However, we do not know where these matches will be played.
