MONTREAL – Good news is never too much on the healthcare network and we must take the time to highlight it. The College of Physicians of Quebec said Monday there were 210 more active physicians in the province than last year.
This data comes from the “Statistics on Quebec Medical Personnel” for December 31, 2022. It reads that 25,585 doctors were registered in the list of appointments, compared to 25,176 at the same time in 2021. This is an increase by 409 professionals.
However, not all of these doctors are active and caring for patients. As of December 31, there were 22,647 active physicians, compared to 22,477 a year ago. So that’s a gain of 170 active professionals.
In addition, a good number of doctors seem to have decided to return to the herd for a year. The college reports that about 40 doctors whose practice was located outside of the province gave a new professional address in Quebec. A total of 210 more active doctors are benefiting the population.
Unsurprisingly, Montreal is the region that has benefited the most from these healthcare additions, adding 108 physicians. Montérégie (+39), Laurentides (+23), Quebec (+19) and Mauricie (+18) were also spoiled.
At the other end of the spectrum, some regions have seen doctors close their practice or go into exile. Centre-du-Québec (-18), Chaudière-Appalaches (-7), Laval (-4) and Outaouais (-4) have the worst scores.
