Both a short documentation and an interactive web production, rooms is a creation commissioned by the Théâtre Denise-Pelletier that invites the audience into the bowels of the Montreal establishment. The 30-minute film is offered online for free and allows you to discover the 15 plays in which the preparations for a performance take place.
Dominique Quesnel plays the Guardian
, an omniscient and invisible narrator who lurks behind the scenes. The actress lends her voice to the film’s narrative and describes the various roles of the team responsible for the smooth running of a theatrical production.
rooms is also interspersed with archival images that trace the history of this almost hundred-year-old building on Sainte-Catherine street, in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district.
A guided drone tour
On the short film website (New window), viewers can choose to watch it from start to finish or select one of the film’s 17 chapters. These correspond to the premises of the theater, for example the box office, the control rooms, the trapdoors or the costume workshop.
Designed and produced by the INsubordination Creation Box, rooms is a state-of-the-art work that notably required the contribution of four drone pilots with cameras.
