PGA: Cantlay dominates, Hadwin in top 10

America’s Patrick Cantlay hit a whopping 60 in the third round of Saturday’s Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas, giving him a lead with South Korea’s Tom Kim.

Cantlay’s recipe for taking 11 shots off par: Score 11 birdies and never foul on the greens at TPC Summerlin. With identical laps of 67 (-4) earning him eighth place, the 30-year-old climbed to the front of the field.

He has to watch out for Kim (62), who also dodged the bogeys on Saturday. Both golfers have a three-stroke priority over their closest pursuers en route to the final round.

Third were Matthew NeSmith (63) and Mito Pereira (67). Remember that the latter was at the top of the standings after two laps.

Canada’s Adam Hadwin may need more miracles to clinch a second career title, but his superb 65 card propelled him from ninth to seventh. He has an overall score of -14.

The only other Maple Leaf representatives still in contention, Taylor Pendrith (66) and Adam Svensson (67), all jumped at -9 for tied 32nd place.

Michael Gligic and Nick Taylor had to pack their bags on Friday, unable to escape the axe.

Shadoff one turn away from victory

For the LPGA, Jodi Ewart Shadoff continued her great work by maintaining her four-shot lead after three rounds at the Mediheal Championship in Somis, California.

The Englishwoman, in search of a first track title, is on a real mission. She brought back a second straight map with 69 shots (-3) to climb to -14. She had three birdies with no bogeys on Saturday.

Some golfers like America’s Andrea Lee and France’s Céline Boutier gained feathers by playing 66 (-6) to close in for third place, five strokes from the lead.

South Africa’s Paula Reto remained in second place after showing the same score as Shadoff. It shows a total of 206 after 54 holes.

Canada’s Alena Sharp, her country’s only remaining representative, is somehow clinging to her, who had her worst lap. Their card of 77 (+5) and their total score of 220 (+4) place them on the 72nd and penultimate level.
