The Liberal Party of Canada (“Liberal Party”) is committed to respecting your privacy. The purpose of this Privacy Policy is to set out the means we take to ensure the confidentiality, security and accuracy of the personal information you provide to us.

What does “personal data” mean?
The term “personal information” means information that identifies an individual. This includes contact information, i.e. the person's name, address and telephone number, as well as financial information.
HOW DO WE OBTAIN YOUR PERSONAL DATA AND WHAT IS IT?
We obtain personal information in different ways.
Some information is provided to us directly by Elections Canada. For example, every year we receive a voter list that contains the names and addresses of those eligible to vote. We also collect information from publicly available data sources and through outreach activities such as door-to-door canvassing, telephone calls and text messages.
We also receive other information that you provide to us. You can do this in different ways:
- when you visit our website to get involved with the party as a registered Liberal, volunteer or donor;
- when you subscribe to our communications such as email updates, newsletters or text alerts;
- when you register to participate in a party activity or convention;
- when you complete a registration or donation form online or on paper;
- when you complete any other form on a Liberal Party website, including an online petition;
- It is also possible that your personal information may be provided to us by a volunteer or friend who believes you would be interested in participating in party activities.
The information we collect may include:
- Your contact and identification details, including your name, address, telephone numbers, email address and social media contact details;
- Information about your donations, such as the date and amount of your donation;
- Financial information we need to process a donation, i.e. payment methods and preferences, banking information and billing information (e.g. credit card number and expiration date);
- Information you share regarding your voting preferences or topics you have shared with us.
HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL DATA AND UNDER WHAT CONDITIONS DO WE SHARE IT?
We use your personal information to communicate with you about the Liberal Party and its activities, to provide you with news and to provide you with information. We use your financial information to process your donations. If you have donated in the past, we may contact you again to ask for your financial support.
We will not use your personal data for any purposes other than those set out in this policy without your consent, unless permitted or required by applicable law. For example, under the Canada Elections Act, we are required to disclose to Elections Canada the name and address of our donors and the amount of their contribution. This may also apply if we have a good faith belief that we are legally permitted or required to share this information to protect the safety of our team or the public.
Because the Liberal Party is a national organization, personal information may be shared internally, for example between the party's national office and its provincial and territorial riding councils, as well as its riding associations and candidates for office. HOW DO WE ENSURE THE PROTECTION OF PERSONAL DATA?
The security of your personal information is important to us.
We use physical, electronic and procedural security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized use or disclosure, as well as loss or theft.
Our security practices are constantly evolving to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of our systems and the information we store. We use the latest security mechanisms to protect our networks and websites.
For example, with respect to information provided online, our website contains security measures to prevent unauthorized disclosure, loss, misuse or alteration of the information we hold. We also use measures such as SSL encryption when processing sensitive data such as passwords and credit card information. Our server is located in a locked and secure location.
Our employees are required to read the Liberal Party's Privacy Policy and complete comprehensive online training on the collection and use of personal information and procedures to protect that information. This training will show employees what type of personal information the Liberal Party holds and how it collects and uses that information. It also describes the steps that employees with access to personal information must take to ensure that the information is not misused. For example, employees may only use Liberal Party data to communicate with voters on behalf of the Liberal Party. Employees can only access the Liberal Party database using their personal identification code and are not permitted to copy or redistribute the data.
How can I update my contact information or unsubscribe?

If you have agreed to receive information via email, you may unsubscribe from our mailing list by clicking the “unsubscribe” button at the bottom of the email.
What about the anti-spam law?
Most messages sent by the Liberal Party and its various political entities are not subject to Canada's anti-spam legislation, which applies to commercial electronic messages sent to electronic addresses. This is because the electronic messages we send are typically for the purpose of fundraising (to which an exception is expressly provided by law) or are of a political and non-commercial nature. To the extent the law applies to some of our communications and no exceptions apply, we will ensure that we obtain your consent in accordance with the law and meet any other legal obligations, such as: B. set up a logout mechanism.
As a best practice, we have implemented an unsubscribe mechanism for our electronic communications, although this is not required by law.
Does the Liberal Party log IP addresses?
PLC and/or our network service providers may log your device's IP addresses or location, including browser type, browser language and device time zone, for system administration, content optimization and troubleshooting purposes. IP addresses may also be used to track which pages of the website are visited in order to improve the quality of the website and other online engagement features.
Does the Liberal Party use witnesses (COOKIES)?
