Canada’s Pamela Ware finished on the podium during Saturday’s 1m springboard event at the World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.
Ware was twelfth after the preliminary rounds and narrowly qualified for the final. He finished the competition with a total score of 284.40 points, behind Mexico’s Aranza Vasquez-Montano (285.05).
Only with her 2nd jump (69.00) in the final did Ware jump to 3rd place, which she was unable to hold.
China’s Lin Shan (318.60) won gold ahead of her compatriot Li Yajie (306.35). They were the only ones to break the 300 point mark.
Another Canadian, Mia Vallée (232.15), did not make it past the preliminary rounds, her best jump, her first of five, earning her 50.70 points.
In the 10m synchronized, Canada’s Kate Miller and Nathan Zsombor-Murray placed 5th with a score of 290.43.
China’s Feilong Wang and Jiaqi Zhang (339.54) won the event ahead of Mexico’s Jose Ballesa Isaias and Viviana Del Angel Peniche (313.44) and Japan’s Hiroki Ito and Minami Hitahashi (305.34).
The Chinese duo Wang Zongyuan and Long Daoyi were crowned world champions in the synchronized 3-meter dash.
With a score of 456.33, they beat Britain’s Jack Laugher and Anthony Harding (424.62 points) in silver and France’s Alexis Jandard and Jules Bouyer (389.10 points) in bronze.
Wang had already won the same amount of world championship title in Budapest last year, but with a different partner.
The 21-year-old diver was also crowned Olympic champion in Tokyo in 2021, along with another teammate.
