A few years ago, it was unthinkable for many of the club’s fans to see forward Max Pacioretty wearing the jersey of a rival Montreal Canadiens team.
This is actually the case: in mid-September, Pacioretty signed a professional tryout contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs. When asked about it, the former Habs captain seems to see no problem playing for one of the worst enemies of the organization that recruited him.

“My kids say it’s the best jersey I’ve ever worn as far as fit goes,” he said in comments provided by David Alter of The Hockey News on Thursday.
“But no, it is a great honor to wear both jerseys, two original teams and of course the history of the two teams. It’s not strange at all. I’m proud of that,” continued the 35-year-old winger.
Even though he still doesn’t have a regular contract with the Queen City team, Pacioretty seems to be putting all the odds on his side to get there. During his first preseason game with the Maple Leafs, Sunday against the Ottawa Senators, the former Vegas Golden Knights scored two goals and an assist in a 6-5 overtime loss for his team.
He will also be in action again on Thursday evening when the Canadian visits the Scotiabank Arena.
