Oris, a Swiss-based brand, has just introduced their new limited edition watch, the “Coulson Limited Edition”. The latter is a partnership with Coulson Aviation, a Canadian company specializing in aerial forest firefighting. He pays tribute to this organization that sends pilots, aircraft and equipment to regions of the world affected by these disasters. The goal of Coulson Aviation: to help firefighters in action and to protect people and the environment.
The Oris watch was manufactured using the additive manufacturing. In fact, it features a carbon fiber body that has been 3D printed. to shape it 9T Labsa company that has developed a 3D printing process to create structures composites of carbon. It used its Red Series solution, a 3D printer that allows for a high build volume. The process allows carbon fiber and a high-performance polymer to be printed simultaneously PEKK. By mixing the components, a light and stiff material can be made. According to Ulrich W. Herzog, President of Oris, “Our new watch features a 3D printing technique that has never been used in watchmaking before”.
3D printing made it possible to produce 1,000 watches
Using 3D printing to create the Coulson Limited Edition has enabled certain benefits. Oris wanted to create a model that is both durable and environmentally friendly. The technology makes it possible to better manage resources and thus limit waste. With 9T Labs, the Swiss brand was able to produce 1,000 watches with the quantity needed for each model.
