Sports giant Nike has finally ended its partnership with Hockey Canada.
Nike was one of several major partners to suspend their sponsorship deal with the Canadian Ice Hockey Federation in 2022. The company was criticized at the time for its handling of allegations of sexual assault and the existence of settlement funds.
Nike’s move comes nearly two weeks after gear brand Bauer resumed its partnership with Hockey Canada after hiring former Curling Canada CEO Katherine Henderson as president and a member of the organization’s management team.
“Hockey Canada thanks Nike for its long-standing relationship, which has spanned more than two decades, and respects its decision to no longer work with Hockey Canada,” the organization’s statement said.
“We are grateful for Bauer Hockey’s support and reinvestment in our relationship, which sends a positive message for the future,” it said.
In addition to Henderson’s appointment, Hockey Canada has made several leadership changes to restore its image.
The entire board resigned last October, as did interim chair Andrea Skinner. The then President and CEO Scott Smith had also left the organization.
A new board was then appointed and Hugh L. Fraser, a retired judge, became chairman. The federation has also implemented many of the governance changes called for in a damning independent report.
