A new walk-in clinic is coming to Whitehorse. It is the first to operate in the area since the River Valley clinic stopped accepting new patients in 2021.
After years of waiting, the new walk-in clinic in the capital is scheduled to open its doors on Monday at 9 a.m.
The location will be temporarily located on Route 9010 quartzand is waiting to be permanently located next year Mah’s pointDowntown.
The clinic, which focuses on non-urgent, essential medical needs and patients without a primary care physician, is open Monday to Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
However, the facility will remain closed during the holidays from December 25th to January 1st.
It was a missing part of the Yukon health system
acknowledges Kate White, leader of the Yukon New Democratic Party.
With no accessible walk-in clinic, many Yukoners had to go to the emergency room at Whitehorse General Hospital.
According to Yukon Medical Association President Dr. Alex Kmet, the introduction of these services will therefore help to reduce the congestion in the emergency department a little.
This initiative will provide relief not only to patients but also to healthcare professionals.
This does not solve the many challenges facing the health system, adds the head of the health authority NDPbut according to Kate White, it’s already a step in the right direction.
The new clinic can be reached at 867-471-0035.
