Hockey Canada members have elected the organization’s new Board of Directors, which is made up of people from a variety of backgrounds and will be handpicked by an independent nominating committee.

This was announced in a press release on Saturday afternoon.

The newly elected board consists of eight directors and one chairman, who together have extensive experience in the areas of governance, law, sport and business, the press release said.

Its Chair will be the Honorable Hugh L. Fraser, a retired judge with nearly 30 years of experience as a judge of the Ontario Court of Justice.

Two Quebecers are part of the group of eight administrators, including Julie Duranceau, an experienced attorney and accredited mediator in civil, commercial, labor and family law matters. The other is Jonathan F. Goldbloom, a communications specialist with extensive public and private sector experience.

The Trustee Group includes four Ontario individuals, including Marian Jacko of the Wiikwemkoong First Nation. Cassie Campbell-Pascall of Alberta, a former women’s national team captain, and Grant Borbridge were also named directors.

The board will work to bring about urgent changes at Hockey Canada, including the recruitment of a new leader and the implementation of the organization’s action plan to eliminate toxic behaviors in all aspects of ice hockey.

“We are very busy and committed to making the anticipated changes within Hockey Canada,” Fraser said in a press release.

“Hockey is an integral part of our country’s identity and we are committed to ensuring that Hockey Canada is an organization that is transparent, accountable and worthy of the trust of Canadians. »

Consistent with the recommendations of former Supreme Court Justice Thomas Cromwell, the board will exercise a special year-long mandate focused on making the changes needed to improve Hockey Canada’s governance and safety on the ice and elsewhere .
