Netflix is gradually eliminating the basic subscription

Netflix’s basic plan, which allows users to watch TV shows and movies on the entertainment site for $10 a month, is gradually disappearing in Canada, according to the platform.

For fans of TV series and movies who have left the streaming site, it is no longer possible to choose this formula for their new subscription, the cheapest without ads.

Only people who already have an active subscription can continue to choose the plan. However, the company plans to remove it for them too, in the near futureaccording to a spokesman for the streaming giant.

People who are already subscribers will keep their package as long as they don’t leave the service or opt for a different formula.

Movie and TV fans are left with only three options: the subscription with advertising at $6/month, the standard subscription at $16.50/month (including two devices), or the premium subscription at $21/month (4K picture quality and the ability to add two external members).

This change comes a few months after Netflix took action to stop sharing passwords with people who don’t live under the same roof.

This announcement had caused resentment among Internet users who were looking for alternatives to consume affordable entertainment in an inflationary context.
