Quebec’s Félix Auger-Aliassime will join his good friend Denis Shapovalov and former world number three Milos Raonic in the main draw of the National Bank Open in Toronto August 5-13.
Tennis Canada therefore announced on Wednesday the names of the players who will perform at Sobeys Stadium to compete for the title of this Masters 1000 tournament on the ATP circuit. Unsurprisingly, the three Canadians will be in action, with Raonic having already stated his intention to play in Queen City. He had the opportunity to take part in the Wimbledon tournament and was defeated in the second round. For its part, the “FAA” will try to regain strength as it has been struggling to claim victories for several weeks. Note his first-round eliminations at Roland-Garros and the All England Club.
Shapovalov reached the fourth round in London but the condition of his left knee could end his plans. Struggling physically in his last game, he raised the possibility of a break from the calendar.
Alcaraz will be there
Men’s tennis No. 1 Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz will be playing in Toronto for the first time on August 9 and is keen to start preparing for the US Open. Serbian Novak Djokovic will also be there, as will Russian Daniil Medvedev and Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas. All members of the world top 10, completed by Casper Ruud, Holger Rune, Andrey Rublev, Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, will try to impress the audience.
“Our fans couldn’t ask for a better line-up and we know they look forward to making history at Sobeys Stadium next month,” competition director Karl Hale said in a statement. We’ve made many improvements this year, from innovative on-site fan activities to player facilities and experiences. They are backed by the impressive spectacle the athletes will put on for us on the pitch in what looks to be our best tournament yet.”
Three more passes will be confirmed shortly before the event. TVA Sports will broadcast the National Bank Open.
