Nathan Rourke finds takers in the NFL

Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke will continue his career in the NFL after signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The 24-year-old athlete announced this on his social networks on Sunday.

Rourke had a spectacular season with the Canadian Football League (CFL) BC Lions in 2022. He stood out south of the border and previously played against no fewer than 12 NFL teams to pick the “Jags.”

“Ultimately, my decision was made based on the dream I’ve had since I was a kid watching Brett Favre win the Super Bowl at NFL Films. I am happy to announce that the beginning of this dream begins today. After much prayer and thought, I will be joining the Jacksonville Jaguars. I look forward to working with my new teammates and coaches,” Rourke wrote in a statement posted to his Twitter account.

Last year, in his first season as a starter in the CFL, the BC native dominated. Despite losing several games due to a foot injury, he still mustered 3,349 yards and 25 touchdowns in 10 games. He was also the victim of 10 thefts.

Rourke also completed 78.7% of his pass attempts, which is a CFL record.

“It was great fun playing in my home province in front of my friends and family,” Rourke said. I really enjoyed my experience in the CFL. It was very special to practice the sport I love in front of my fellow Canadians. The CFL was an unplanned detour in my football adventure, but a necessary detour. I am grateful that Lions have allowed me to learn what it means to be a professional. I grew up safe and off the field.”

Rourke is expected to join the Jaguars in 2024. The Florida club is currently in the NFL playoffs and achieved a 31-30 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the first round.
