Misfits Boxing Announces WWE Tag Team Fight With Former KSI Opponent.

KSI’s Misfits boxing promotion has announced a “revolutionary” new WWE-style tag team fight to push the boundaries of celebrity fighting. The YouTube star, musician and crossover boxer admitted “boxing purists” won’t like the new fight night concept, but vowed the idea will “change the sport forever”.

Fans will see the tag team concept for the first time at the Misfits’ next show at the Telford International Center on March 4th. Jay Swinger vs. Nichlmao will be officiating the 005 Series event, the fifth show hosted by KSI and Wasserman Boxing in shows that will become the home of crossover boxing.

But there’s a new twist on the Telford card with Misfits promising a “double trouble” in a tag team fight involving former KSI rival Luis Pineda.

Ridiculously knocked out by KSI last summer, the Mexican journeyman will be teaming up with BDave, whom he defeated on the final show of the promotion after being heralded as a highly anticipated mystery antagonist.

The duo takes on Canadian comedian Kyle “Stromedy” Godfrey and Austin Sprinz in the first weekend of March in the first tag team match, the “Fantastic 2” shared by millions of followers on social media.

“The first Misfits & DAZN will change the sport forever,” said KSI. “The big crossover boxing scene has never seen anything like it. I can’t wait to see these two teams jump in the ring at 005.”

KSI also jokingly responded to the news on Twitter, writing, “Boxing purists won’t like this,” along with a bunch of laughing emojis. And the 29-year-old, perhaps unsurprisingly, received backlash for the announcement. “You’re right,” his former trainer and professional boxer, Viddal Riley, replied.

“How can that be acceptable under a boxing banner? one of them asked. But some fans defended the tag team match with one sentence: The path you took with Misfits was perfect. A WWE version of boxing looks way more fun and unique. »

The tag team fight will be conducted using standard boxing rules for in-ring fighters, using 16 ounce gloves to make the fight safer. But the exact rules regarding entry and exit of opponents are unclear.

Misfits promoter Mams Taylor is confident the new tag team concept will make crossover boxing even more fun. “Tag Team Baby!” And that’s the thing — people are going to hate it, people are going to love it, people are going to understand and some people aren’t,” he said on the Misfits YouTube channel.

“But at the end of the day, Misfits is exactly that. We have serious competition there. We have fun, we antics, we do sports entertainment and it’s our raison d’être, so get used to it.

“Ultimately, we are here to stay and we are here to make a splash in an area where it has never been done before. Real martial arts with real entertainment on another level. »
