The Secretary of State, the Honorable Mélanie Joly, announced today that she will host the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Enrique A. Manalo, in Ottawa on May 8, 2024.
This year marks an important milestone for Canada and the Philippines as the two countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. The long-standing friendship between the two countries is based on strong and lasting people-to-people relationships.
Minister Joly and Minister Manalo will take stock of progress in bilateral cooperation since the launch of Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy in late 2022 and will discuss how to advance shared priorities, including maintaining peace and stability in the region, promoting Democracy and the rule of law as well as supporting long-term growth and prosperity and combating climate change.
During his visit, Mr. Manalo will also meet with the Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, Honorable Mary Ng, Minister of International Development, Honorable Ahmed Hussen, Honorable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship , and the Honorable Rechie Valdez, Minister of Small Business.
