The automatic lane change function, ALC for short (Automatic Lane Change), is already available for the C-Class, E-Class and S-Class as well as for all Mercedes-Benz models of the EQ series sold in the USA and Canada and will soon also be available in Europe.

The ALC function is an integral part and supplements the brand’s own Distronic distance control assistant. If there is a slower vehicle in front of it, the vehicle can change lanes independently in the speed range of 80-140 km/h and overtake fully automatically if lane markings are recognized and there is sufficient space. The prerequisite for this is that the speed limit is displayed on the road and the vehicle is equipped with the MBUX navigation system. Note that the device does not require an impulse from the driver to perform the automatic lane change.

With driver assistance, the system also helps with navigating exits and when changing motorways. With the SAE Level 2 system, the driver remains responsible for supervision even when changing lanes automatically, so Mercedes-Benz made a conscious decision to keep your hands on the steering wheel.
