This is the first time in the history of Billboard Canadian Hot 100introduced in 2007, means a song holds the top spot on the charts for 20 weeks or more. “A Bar Song” reached number one the week of May 11, 2024 and remained on the charts for a total of 26 weeks. It was briefly dethroned by Eminem’s “Houdini” and Morgan Wallen and Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” but otherwise dominated from summer through fall.
With “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” setting a new record, here is an updated ranking for the most weeks at #1 on the Canadian charts Billboard Hot 100 :
Most weeks at number one on the Canadian Hot 100
Weeks, title, artist, date
20, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”, Shaboozey, May 11, 2024
19, “Old Town Road”, Lil Nas X ft. Billy Ray Cyrus, April 20, 2019
18, “As It Was”, Harry Styles, April 16, 2022
16, “Despacito”, Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber, May 27, 2017
16, “Shape of You”, Ed Sheeran, January 28, 2017

15, “Flowers”, Miley Cyrus, January 28, 2023

Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” also makes history on the US Billboard Hot 100, setting the record for the second-longest reign by a newcomer this week at 14 weeks. However, it was the Virginia artist’s song that reached No. 1 in Canada and reigned there longer. He recognized the achievement onstage last month during a headlining concert at Danforth Music Hall in Toronto, when Billboard Canada presented him with a plaque for his No. 1 song “You’re the One Who Made It done first,” he said triumphant Canadian audience.
In a Billboard cover story, Shaboozey opens up about the whirlwind of the last few months. He’s been making music for ten years, but his big break came this year when he appeared as a guest on Beyoncé’s culture-changing album Cowboy Carter. Beyoncé and Shaboozey then made history by becoming the first two black artists to consecutively reach number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart with “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” but “A Bar Song” topped that Songs from Cowboy Carter to dominate the rankings.
Lil Nas Shaboozey’s song “A Bar Song” quotes J-Kwon’s 2004 rap hit “Tipsy” and brings together listeners of various genres around the topic of alcohol in the face of everyday economic hardship, which has earned him recognition and on various radio formats was broadcast widely across Canada. To put this historic achievement in perspective, 20 weeks would also be the record for most weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, where Lil Nas X still holds the top spot with 19 weeks. On this chart, which has existed for 66 years, compared to 17 years in Canada, only five songs have held the No. 1 spot for more than 15 weeks.
It’s hard to predict whether any song will have the power to knock Shaboozey off the top spot on the Canadian Hot 100 in the near future. Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s song “I Had Some Help” holds its own in second place, briefly overtaking Shaboozey this summer. Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” has been stagnating at third place for several weeks, while Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ duet “Die With a Smile” continues its slow climb into the top five, sitting at fourth place this week. Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” is currently in fifth place, having previously reached third place.
So how many weeks will Shaboozey stay at the top spot on the Canadian charts? Hot 100? Only time will tell.
