The Winnipeg Jets’ decision to strip Blake Wheeler of the captaincy raises many questions for Mathieu Perreault.
The Quebecer said this on Friday during his contribution to the show “La Poche Bleue le midi”.
“It’s special, honestly. It’s hard for me to imagine the Jets’ bedroom without Blake Wheeler as the captain. I spoke a bit with a member of the team and it’s the new coaching staff that wants new management and a new leadership group. I can’t wait to see what they will do with it. Knowing Blake, I can tell you he’ll be fine. He’s a guy with a lot of character.”
The former Canadians also fear the move is the first in a series of moves that could drastically change the face of the Jets.
“It’s probably the beginning of the change coming to Winnipeg. It’s been a few years since it’s spinning a little on the same things. These are the same guys being brought up and it doesn’t go any further. This may be the first step that will lead to more things to come.
