Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis rarely criticizes his players during his press conferences. As for Arber Xhekaj, however, he did not appear on Friday.
The Habs pilot was completely honest. Make no mistake: He didn’t raise his voice. He remained Zen. But he is obviously not happy with the impressive defender’s performance since the start of the season. Watch the video above.
“I expect a better version [de Xhekaj]. He has to stay vigilant, be constant…you know?” St-Louis said bluntly.
But how can we give Xhekaj more responsibility without distorting him?
“I think you should be careful not to make mistakes, though,” St-Louis continued. He’s no longer a newbie. He has to say to himself: “I have to get better.” It’s very simple.
“It’s not like we overanalyze every single mistake. I expect a better version.”
Xhekaj will have a chance to recover on Saturday when he returns to the lineup against the St. Louis Blues.
The number 72 was omitted in the last two meetings and preferred to Jayden Struble.
