Marriott Bonvoy Announces Smooth Membership Transition Policy for 2023

If a traveler has a certain membership status with a hotel or airline, they must maintain (or exceed) it each year. If she does not meet the terms of the program, she may no longer have that status.

So for people who couldn’t meet the sound level requirements Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status or lower in 2022, they will go down one or more levels for 2023. You won’t have it soft landing‘, avoiding a drastic downgrade in status.

For example, this transition prevents an Ambassador Elite member (requiring 100 elite nights) who only stayed 10 nights in 2022 from ending up with Silver status for 2023. He will then slowly descend to the Titanium level for 2023, which is a lower level. And that, even if the Titanium status requires at least 75 status nights.

As a reminder, here are the 6 status levels in the Marriott Bonvoy program:

STATUS NIGHTS / YEAR
Member 0-9
Silver Elite 10-24
Gold Elite 25-49
Platinum Elite 50-74
Titan Elite 75-99
Ambassador Elite 100+
& $20,000 in expenses
