federal policy

Bloc member for riding Laurentides-Labelle, Marie-Hélène Gaudreau, takes stock of a 2022 full of pitfalls in federal politics.
“The winter will be harsh, but Quebecers will be able to rely every day and uncompromisingly on the 32 deputies of the bloc, all pro-Quebec,” concluded Marie-Hélène Gaudreau. (Photo courtesy of MEPs Marie-Hélène Gaudreau’s office)
Marie-Hélène Gaudreau begins by stating that “the Trudeau government is incapable of doing its job”. She points to shortcomings in the areas of immigration and health and denounces Chinese interference in Canadian affairs.
She points out that “during the pandemic, the Canadian government has shown it has the ability to roll up its sleeves. It is a matter of will and conceals negligence. In late September, the government resumed its pre-pandemic model.” The honorary member says these federal government shortcomings directly affect Canadian citizens.
Surroundings
Regarding the environment, Marie-Hélène Gaudreau states that Canada is the fourth most polluting country in the world: “We are the worst, it’s embarrassing”. She emphasizes the fact that Canada funds oil companies: “If Alberta wants to stand on its own two feet, Canada will increase transfers from fossil fuel companies because we don’t want to lose this oil province.”
language
The Honorable Member notes that Canada is proposing legislation to promote bilingualism. According to Marie-Hélène Gaudreau, this would allow companies under federal jurisdiction to circumvent the Quebec French Language Charter (Bill 101). She demands that Bill 101 should apply federally: “In Quebec we don’t want to promote bilingualism, we want to protect French. Quebec is a French-speaking environment.”
health
Regarding health, the MNA notes: “We have been asking the government for the long-awaited health transfers for 27 months. During the pandemic we were told that we would talk about it again after the pandemic. She notes that there hasn’t been any news on this site since then.
A victory
Laurentides-Labelle MP recalls a bloc victory in House of Commons over protection of workers’ pension funds. When a company goes bankrupt, the former employee of that company can now benefit from a protected pension fund, which was not the case before.
Finally, Marie-Hélène Gaudreau believes that the current Liberal government has not proven itself worthy of governing the country: “In Bloc Québécois we want to be logical and responsible, but the government is turning everything on its head. Other things happen in the spring, there are scandals. To get through the last month, the federal government needed a fragile alliance with the NDP.” “We feel behind the scenes that we agree with ourselves,” she adds.
