The Dauphin Regional Health Centre, located northwest of Winnipeg, will receive nine new inpatient beds as part of renovations to the hospital.
These beds will allow more Manitobans to receive the care they need closer to home
Prime Minister Wab Kinew said at a press conference on Wednesday.
The increase in the number of beds is part of the second phase of a $7.8 million investment project announced in late 2021 under the former Progressive Conservative government.
These renovations include the development of a larger, more modern space for cancer patients on the ground floor of the hospital, which was completed in late 2023.
The hospital will also have an expanded endoscopy unit with a new treatment room and six post-surgery preparation and recovery areas. According to the province, this expansion will free up operating rooms.
This change will also increase surgical capacity at Dauphin, says Prairie Mountain Health Authority General Manager Brian Schoonbaert.
He added that the new endoscopy room is scheduled to open soon and the entire renovation project is expected to be completed by the summer.
