Of the 19 Canadian women who competed in the CP Women’s Open in Ottawa, 11 failed to hit at least the par-71 shot in the first round on Thursday.
With rounds of 67 (-4) each, Maddie Szeryk and Alena Sharp were the maple leaf’s best representatives over the first 18 holes of the competition, sharing 16th place.
Lauren Zaretsky also did well, one shot behind her compatriots and finished 30th.
Crowd favorite Brooke M. Henderson also cheered the crowds gathered around the course, scoring five birdies against three bogeys for a total of 69 (-2).

Another Canadian, Selena Costabile, also shares 50th place with Henderson.
Vanessa Zhang and Rebecca Lee-Bentham are the only others to shoot under par, each hitting the white object 70 (-1) times.
Megan Osland (A) and Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (72; +1) as well as Michelle Liu, Maude-Aimée Leblanc and Brigitte Thibault (73; +2) as well as Savannah Grewal, Valérie Tanguay and Lucy Lin (74; +3) were able to Yeji Kwon (75;+4) also Katie Cranston and Monet Chun (77;+6) and finally Lorie Kane (84;+13) do not perform more than normal.
South Africa’s Paula Reto performed best in the first round, cleaning a round with nine birdies, putting down a card of 62 (-9) and taking control.
She will start the second day of activities with a two-stroke priority over South Korean Narin An.
