The Montreal Canadiens will look to remain undefeated at home this season by hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Bell Center on Monday night.
For the occasion, the Habs (2-1-0, 4 points) will feature the same lineup that enabled them to win against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday evening. Samuel Montembeault will be the starting goaltender.
Penguins (1-2-0, 2 points) captain Sidney Crosby is just one point away from the 1,600-point plateau in the Bettman Circuit.
Not very threatening
The Canadians are hardly threatening at the start of the game. They had no shots on the clock when the Penguins took the lead with 6:54 left on a goal by Lars Eller, the fourth for the Pittsburgh team.
When defender David Savard lost his footing, he released Eller and his lively shot surprised everyone, including Montembeault.
A routine shot toward goaltender Tristan Jarry is the Canadiens’ first with 8:47 left in the quarter. We hear sarcastic applause from the crowd… and it’s not directed at the Penguins goalie.
At the end of the quarter, Montembeault saves the furniture again, but cannot change the following sequence, in which Richard Rackell is alone in front of the net: 2-0 Penguins.
The Habs need a spark and it’s Kaiden Guhle who gets it with a one-timer that hits the mark at 18:16.
