Have the Tampa Bay Lightning found the one who could temporarily forget Andrei Vasilevskiy?
It’s too early to come to that conclusion, but goalkeeper Jonas Johansson looked good in a 4-0 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes in a preseason clash at Amalie Arena on Friday.
The 28-year-old Masked Man posted a 42-save shutout, a day after the organization announced that Vasilevskiy would not participate in activities for at least two months due to a back injury.
Johansson was hired on July 1 and has 35 games of experience in the National League. He wore the colors of the Buffalo Sabres, Colorado Avalanche and Florida Panthers.
Anthony Cirelli (twice), Felix Robert and Luke Glendening were the Bolts’ top scorers against the Canes.
Robert, a Lambton native, also had an assist.
Additionally, the Hurricanes had split their team in two on Friday evening. In their other game, they were defeated by the Panthers 4-2 at Amerant Bank Arena.
Flyers win in shootout
At the TD Garden, the Philadelphia Flyers spoiled David Pastrnak’s great night of work by coming from behind to triumph 4-3 in a shootout.
Bobby Brink found the net in the third period, tying the game and forcing overtime. In the shootout, Brink and Morgan Frost defeated Linus Ullmark, while goalkeeper Cal Petersen was ahead of Matthew Poitras and Pastrnak.
The latter scored two of the Bruins’ three goals in regular time. The Boston club’s other success was the work of Quebecer Frédéric Brunet.
Joel Farabee and Ryan Poehling also hit the mark in Flyers camp.
The Senators return to winning ways
The Ottawa Senators celebrated their third win in four preseason games at the Canadian Tire Centre. This time they defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-1.
The Sens suffered their first loss of training camp on Wednesday with a score of 4-3 against the Montreal Canadiens.
Claude Giroux, Roby Jarventie and Vladimir Tarasenko scored the goals for the Ottawa club, while Jansen Harkins provided the answer for the Manitoba team.
Quebec goalkeeper Kevin Mandolese was perfect on the 18 shots sent his way. Leevi Merilainen allowed the guests’ only goal with 16 shots.
