LCF: a disturbing scene at Lions training

BC Lions attacking player Phillip Norman collapsed during practice on Wednesday.

The Canadian Football League (CFL) club said its athlete “encountered a serious medical incident.”

“Phil is currently conscious and alert. He is under medical treatment. “The rest of our activities today have been cancelled,” the organization said in a statement.

“Phil is always running and having fun. It looked like he slipped and fell, his offensive mate Sukh Chung told The Province newspaper. I got close and it didn’t look like an accident or a fall. It looked like he had collapsed. My first reaction was to yell at the coaches and call 911. That’s what we were taught. They came to his aid very quickly.”

“I’m not a doctor, but it was something important when he fell. “It wasn’t an easy task,” said head coach Rick Campbell.

Norman joined the Lions in 2018 and has since played 29 games at the Ambrosie circuit. Last year, the 27-year-old American made 15 starts as a left-back.

Before last Thursday’s game, a 25-15 win over the Calgary Stampeders, Norman’s name was on the injury list for a game.

The Lions return to action this Saturday when they visit the Edmonton Elks at BC Place.
