FOOD PROCESSING. In March 2021, Lactalis Canada completed the acquisition of Ultima Foods Inc., Groupe Lactalis’ yogurt division. Less than eight months later, the company did it again by adding Kraft Heinz’s Canadian grated cheese division to its portfolio. This transaction marked its entry into the category of ambient canned product manufacturers and followed the purchase of Kraft’s natural cheese division in 2019.
“In 2021, we also entered e-commerce with the launch of the fromagesdumonde.ca and milkmarketculinary.ca platforms,” said Gilles Froment, Senior Vice President of Government and Industrial Relations. The 2022 version of Lactalis’ Next Ventures innovation program focused on waste reduction. This internal program aims to stimulate and accelerate the exploration of ideas for the development of products, but also of processes, business models and new technologies.
In August 2022, Lactalis Canada announced the conversion of its Sudbury facility which will now focus on plant-based products. “We also launched the Khaas brand of specialty products for Canadians from South Asia, the Middle East and North Africa.
“Our differentiator is that we have the strength, expertise and knowledge of a global organization but operate locally, in line with local demand and consumer trends,” specifies Gilles Froment. We are also the only dairy company in Canada represented in all dairy categories. »
