Several CF Montreal players shone in Saturday’s glorious win over the New England Revolution at the Stade Saputo.
If Romell Quioto’s exploits have resonated in the four corners of the league, we cannot fail to mention the efforts of two pillars of the club, defender Kamal Miller and Quebec midfielder Samuel Piette.
The two Canada internationals offer the Montreal team their best level of play three months before the World Cup.
On Saturday, Miller was literally starving and from all the fighting.
“To the point where he wanted to take the penalty!” laughed former Impact captain Patrice Bernier to CF Montreal Magazine on Tuesday.
Since arriving at the club, the Ontarian has come to fill a key void in defence.
“It’s this athletic player who may have been missing the central hinge, who can be there and play hard, block shots, win header duels,” Bernier imagined the number three.
For his part, Piette excelled in providing Quioto with an excellent assist. The seedy six, long known for his ability to capture balls ahead of defense, is now capable of making that kind of play.
“We can see that he seems to have confidence in his game,” Bernier said, highlighting Piette’s progress on “progressive passes” played up front.
