The name Trevor Zegras is causing a lot of conversation in Montreal. Many fans are hoping that the Canadian will try his luck with the Anaheim Ducks forward, and Juraj Slafkovsky is fueling the rumors.
The Slovakian met his American rival on Monday morning and the two men shared a warm hug before starting to chat. The United States trained in Bratislava before the start of the Ice Hockey World Championships and will face Slovakia in a preseason game on Tuesday.
Another player very close to Zegras is Cole Caufield, who is also part of the American squad for this international tournament. Long-time friends, they will have the opportunity to play together for the first time since the American Development Program.
At the end of April, Zegras spoke out about the persistent rumors linking him to the Canadian in an interview with The Athletic website.
“Can you see it [les rumeurs] happen. They’re hard to ignore. It’s boring for sure. When a particular team gets back into speculation, it is obvious that they gain more momentum in some ways,” he said.
The forward’s contract negotiations with the Ducks were so difficult last summer that he missed most of training camp. His pact now ties him to the Californian team for the next two seasons, but he is not safe from a deal.
As for Slafkovsky, he arrived home Monday and quickly received a text message from Caufield.
“I asked him where he should go to eat,” the CH outsider told the website sport.sk with a smile. He gave me a few seats and told me he would be there tomorrow [lundi].”
The Ice Hockey World Championship will take place from May 10th to 26th in Prague and Ostrava, Czech Republic.
