Joshua Roy unlocks, but not the rocket

The Laval Rocket suffered another defeat, losing 4-3 in a shootout to the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday night at Place Bell.

The Montreal Canadiens farm club in the American League has lost its last nine games. Head coach Jean-François Houle’s men have not experienced the joy of victory since November 15th.

However, this duel marked the end of Joshua Roy’s dry spell. The Quebecer took advantage of a numerical advantage and scored a goal in the first period. He hadn’t picked up a point in his last seven appearances.

The other Rocket scorers were Philippe Maillet and Riley Smith. Defenseman Arber Xhekaj also received an assist and played a second game in development since being sold by the Habs.

The crowd favorite had a 3-1 lead after the first third, but was unable to maintain it. Turner Elson and Ryder Korczak scored in the second period to get everyone back on level terms.

Alex Belzile was the one who scored for the visitors in the first half. It was the 32-year-old veteran’s first game in Laval since leaving the Canadiens organization for the New York Rangers. The Rivière-du-Loup native played for the Rocket for five seasons. Belzile also scored in the shootout, as did his teammate Brett Berard. Roy and Emil Heineman failed at the Rocket.

In front of the cages, Louis Domingue made 28 saves in the win, while Jakub Dobes stopped 36 pucks in the loss.

The Rocket and Wolf Packs will meet again at the same location on Saturday afternoon.
