Patrick Roy tried everything to extend his Quebec Remparts winning streak to Sunday 15 in Sherbrooke. But Joshua Roy had five points, including three goals, in a 5-1 win over Phoenix to end that streak.
Joshua Roy made it 3-0 early in the third period with his second game. The Montreal Canadiens hopeful also reached the 100-net plateau in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (LHJMQ) at the same time.
He has 101 goals and 230 points in 180 games with the Phoenix and Saint John Sea Dogs at juniors.
bold
After Joshua Roy’s second, the Red Devils pilot withdrew his goalie William Rousseau very early. David Spacek and Joshua Roy have managed to add to a deserted cage. Between those two successes, James Malatesta robbed rookie Samuel St-Hilaire of a shutout with his 17th of the campaign.
St-Hilaire saved 19 of 20 pucks aimed at him while Rousseau gave up three times after 38 shots.
Along with Roy, Spacek has also contributed to the scorers’ list more than once with three points. Ethan Gauthier was an accomplice at two of the local favorites’ networks.
Justin Gill also had his say, threading the needle for the 19th time this season. Gill is on the rise as he is just one net away from his personal mark of 20 sets last year. His 37 points in 22 games also suggest he will smash his 46 points total from last season.
frustration
The winning streak is not the only one that ended in this encounter. In fact, Théo Rochette tried to get at least one point in the 14th duel in a row, but he failed.
The frustration was also noticeable in the defeated clan. Therapist Steve Bélanger was thrown out of the game in the first part of the third third for unsportsmanlike conduct, and a little later Malatesta as well.
The Remparts return to action on Wednesday with a visit to the Victoriaville Tigres, while the Phoenix take on the Olympiques in Gatineau on the same day.
