Joe Biden will visit Canada March 23-24

This is Joe Biden’s first in-person visit since taking office. He will be accompanied by the First Lady of the United States, Jill Biden. During his stay in Canada, the US President will address Parliament.

According to the Canadian Prime Minister’s Office press release, the two leaders will seize the opportunity are intensifying their cooperation in the areas of defense and security, climate protection and immigration.

Joe Biden and Justin Trudeau are expected to discuss Roxham Road, irregular migration and the Safe Third Countries Agreement. On Tuesday, Immigration Secretary Sean Fraser traveled to Washington to discuss the matter with Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Mr. Fraser says he had one very productive conversation with him.

Ottawa and Washington are under pressure as more people choose to enter their respective countries through unofficial routes of entry.

During the presidential visit, Canada and the United States said they wanted to strengthen their economic ties, particularly with regard to the clean economy.

In a press release, the Trudeau government says it wants this Strengthening competitiveness and creating resilient supply chains, especially for critical minerals.

Canada is trying to position itself as a major player in the EV supply chain due to its strategic natural resources in this area.

Ottawa also wants to address the issue of continental defense and Arctic cooperation.
