Jake Allen was sent off in the first period and the Montreal Canadiens couldn’t recover against the Tampa Bay Lightning, falling 5-3 at the Bell Center on Tuesday night.
Check out the highlights in the video above.
The problems continued and Martin St-Louis’ side found themselves on the losing side for the fourth consecutive season. Things especially went wrong in front of the net, as Allen’s night only lasted 13 minutes and 50 seconds.

Nikita Kucherov opened the scoring after just 22 seconds when his wrist shot missed the New Brunswick goalie’s glove. Things went downhill from there, with the Lightning taking a 4-0 lead on just nine shots. It was the end of broadcasts for Allen, who gave way to Samuel Montembeault.
During the Bolts’ offensive push, Alex Barré-Boulet took the opportunity to hit the target in front of family and friends. The Quebec small forward directed a puck toward the front of the net that deflected off Mike Matheson’s skate and beat Allen.
Montembeault great
It was thanks to Montembeault that the Canadian was able to make his opponents sweat at the end of the game. The Quebec goalkeeper played almost perfectly and conceded late to Nick Paul, who scored his second goal of the game. His 24 saves made the CH believe in it.
Nick Suzuki prevented Matt Tomkins from posting a shutout by waking his team from a stupor on the power play. Six power plays were necessary and this was where the Canadian had his best chances.
So close to his first win in the NHL, the visitors’ goalie was less stable in the final 20 minutes, but he held on. He couldn’t stop the puck after Jake Evans deflected it in front of his net, and Michael Pezzetta was able to score Montreal’s second goal on the return play.
Christian Dvorak also caused a stir for the first time this season.
The Bleu-Blanc-Rouge will visit the Detroit Red Wings tomorrow before returning to the Bell Center for four straight games.
