It’s hard to imagine him finishing anywhere but last in the Atlantic in 2024/24

Even if I don’t agree with all the decisions that have been made since the beginning of the era Hughes Gorton In Montreal, I have to admit that I like the overall look of the leaders’ plan. The club don’t want to speed up their recovery by paying top prices to established players, but instead ensure that their nursery is filled with youngsters.

Everything in its time, as the saying goes: at some point, Switzerland will be ready to carry out transactions “Γ  la Pierre-Luc Dubois”.

However, in the short term, the focus should remain on development, not winning. While there’s a wave of optimism about possibly qualifying for the playoffs next year, I just don’t believe it.

Because in my eyes, a bit like Marc Dumont, I see it as very difficult for the Canadiens to finish anywhere other than bottom in their division in 2024-24.

For their part, although the CH players reiterate that they feel they can take part in the series this year (which is logical) and although the development of the youngsters and the potential to have a healthier club should help, There is a big gap between CH and the other seven clubs in the division.

The Red Wings may be the only exception, but if they pick Alex DeBrincat (who’s been around for weeks), they’ll still gain some distance from the CH.

I expect the Canadiens to be a better club in 2024-24 than they have been in the last two years, but in an extremely tough Atlantic Division, I don’t think they have the resources left to hope anywhere else than last Game to land row of it.

I hope I’m wrong and we know that can change quickly but at the moment CH are clearly the worst club (on paper) in the division. He has a more than promising future but I don’t see him capable of winning just yet, even if the club should be healthy all year round.

Next year I especially hope that the young people will develop further in the team. And maybe with a bit of luck the Habs will be able to cloud things over, but I don’t see that happening until 2024/25.

And so it is perfect: everything in its time, as I said before.
