For the second year in a row, the Toronto Blue Jays failed to defeat the Texas Rangers.
On Tuesday night, the only Canadian team in major baseball lost 6-3 at the Rogers Center. The Texas club passed the Jays for second place among teams drafted for the US playoffs. The Torontonians, now in the final playoff spot, could even be overtaken by the Seattle Mariners, who will be in action later this evening.
In this second match of a four-game series against the Rangers, the Blue Jays were limited to seven goals.
Pitcher Max Scherzer (13-6) pitched five and a half innings. The visitors’ starter had three safety hits and a walk, while also passing two rivals in the mitt. He had to leave the game due to a triceps injury in his right arm.

On the mound for the Jays, Hyun Jin Ryu (3-3) allowed three runs on five hits in six innings. Backups Yimi Garcia and Trevor Richards were on the mound for the Rangers’ other runs.
The latter scored first in the fourth inning when Robbie Grossman hit a two-run home run. Jonah Heim, Corey Seager and Travis Jankowski produced the other three goals for the winners.
The Jays opened their scoring in the seventh inning. Cavan Biggio and Ernie Clement had two of their teammates step up to the plate. In the ninth inning, Davis Schneider threw the ball out of bounds. However, it was too late for a comeback.
Belt on the sideline
Prior to today’s game, the Blue Jays placed Brendon Belt on the injured list for a period of 10 days.
The first baseman suffers from muscle spasms in his lumbar spine.
In 97 games in 2024, Belt had a .251 batting average and hit 16 home runs. He is the Toronto club’s third athlete to play recently, following third baseman Matt Chapman and catcher Danny Jansen.
Nathan Luke was recalled by the Buffalo Bisons but did not play against the Rangers.
