A day after taking over veteran Corey Perry from the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday offered him a one-year, $4 million contract.
The 38-year-old forward began negotiations with his new team on Thursday, general manager Kyle Davidson said. The latter said he was glad to have the former Stanley Cup winner’s experience to count on.

In Chicago, Perry is expected to play a role similar to that in Montreal. The Ontario native will mentor the organization’s youngsters, including promising Connor Bedard, who the Hawks picked first in the draft this week.
Perry has spent the last two seasons in Tampa. In the 2022–23 season, he had 25 points in 81 games but retained a -28 rating. He loved to disrupt and taunt opponents and also spent 95 minutes in the penalty box.
In 1,257 regular season games, the former Anaheim Ducks, Dallas Stars, Montreal Canadiens and Lightning player had 883 points. He also has 124 points in 196 playoff games.
