This team was led by Chris StamkosSteven’s father. The approach he took to lead his team was incredible.

There were four of us on the team – Michael’s dad Steve Del Zotto, Alex’s dad Joe Pietrangelo, my friend Tommy Robertson and myself. I was tired of all these people running summer hockey programs to make money. We wanted to do something for the benefit of the kids.

Therefore, the Ontario Blues were founded to ensure that young hockey players have fun playing hockey.

In addition, Tavares and Stamkos became good friends this way. Stamkos even told an anecdote about the number that he still wears today.

John and I were both 19 growing up. You’d think the coach’s son would have first choice for the number, but I was wrong. He let John choose the number first and picked 19, so it was John’s fault I went with 91.

Steven Stamkos

It’s pretty rare for a young person from a peewee team to make it to the NHL. To see that many is unheard of!
