PacifiCan funding will help develop new products and accelerate the growth of two innovative companies in British Columbia.
March 15, 2024 – Delta, British Columbia – PacificCan
The City of Delta has one of the fastest-growing industrial parks in the Greater Vancouver Area, which includes innovative companies such as Plascon Plastics Corporation and GridGear Solutions Ltd. By developing solutions to address environmental challenges, both companies are well positioned for continued growth.
PacifiCan is here to help British Columbia businesses grow locally and compete globally. That’s why The Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Physical Activity and Member of Parliament for Delta, on behalf of the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Minister Responsible for the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Pacific (PacifiCan), today announced $1,628,450 in funding for Plascon Plastics and GridGear under the Business Growth and Productivity program.
Plascon Plastics is receiving more than $1.2 million to increase its production capacity in sustainable injection molding. Injection molding is a process that creates parts by injecting molten plastic into a mold. Plascon Plastics is innovating by using post-consumer recycled materials such as recycled plastics, used car tires and carpet fibers in the injection molding process. The funding from PacifiCan will enable Plascon Plastics to purchase new equipment and molds, hire more employees and expand its product line, including developing a clear 4.15-gallon pail that is not currently available in North America.
Minister Qualtrough also announced $381,750 in funding for GridGear, a manufacturer of electricity submetering technology. This technology allows users to better understand their energy consumption and reduce it to save money. With PacifiCan’s support, GridGear will increase production and commercialize its next-generation submetering technology. This new technology will allow GridGear to offer its products to customers in the industrial sector who require a submeter that can support higher voltages.
The projects announced today are part of PacifiCan’s goals to promote advanced manufacturing and clean technology in British Columbia. They will foster innovation, income growth and job creation, and support PacifiCan’s vision of lasting prosperity for all British Columbians.
