NEW DELHI – Canada’s Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly has been in New Delhi, India, since Wednesday to attend the G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting.
At this meeting, the Minister intends in particular to discuss common challenges with her counterparts, in particular food and energy security, development cooperation, humanitarian aid and disaster relief.
India calls on all G20 members to build consensus on issues of major concern to the poorest countries. In a video address, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said multilateralism was in crisis and urged participants at the meeting not to let current global tensions destroy agreements on food and energy security, climate change and poverty.
On Friday, Minister Joly will take part in the Raisina Dialogue, which is organized by the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among others. The Raisina Dialogue brings together government officials, business leaders, media and members of civil society to discuss the challenges facing the global community.
According to the International Monetary Fund, in 2022 the G20 members accounted for over 80% of global gross domestic product (GDP), 75% of world trade and 60% of the world population.
Last year, India was Canada’s 10th largest trading partner
