The presence of 15 Canadian Armed Forces Main Battle Tanks changed the peaceful landscape of the Big River area in Bathurst.
Readers of Acadie Nouvelle said they were surprised that these imposing war machines sat in a company parking lot on Big River Road for a few days.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the 15 main battle tanks are in the Bathurst area, where they are undergoing repair, overhaul and conversion work by Krauss-Maffei Wegmann, a German company that manufactures numerous military vehicles.
Based on FFG Canada land, these vehicles are part of the Canadian Army’s fleet of Leopard 2A6M tanks, vehicles with a solid reputation and international recognition.
“The specific components that need to be rebuilt are the optics, the user interface, and the fire control components, all of which are part of the turret. “The analog technology that the Leopard 2A6M currently uses for these components is obsolete and replacement parts are no longer available,” wrote a spokesman for the Canadian Armed Forces.
