Ice Hockey World Cup: The Canadians are the boss: Finland meets Sweden

Canada defeated the Czech Republic 4-3 after overtime at the World Cup in Prague on Tuesday.

A goal from Dylan Cozens in extra time and in a numerically inferior situation gave André Tourigny’s players their seventh win in a row. They will face Slovakia in the quarterfinals.

This Canadian victory allowed Switzerland to keep its fate in its own hands before its final clash with Finland (3-1). The Finns were confident of challenging their best opponent, Sweden, in the quarter-finals, who dominated Slovakia 6-1 on Tuesday evening to collect points (21).

With Austria’s surprising 4-2 defeat against the already relegated Brits, the Finns confirmed their qualification in the afternoon. After a last-second win against Finland and a 6-1 defeat against Canada, Austria failed to reach its first World Cup quarter-finals.

In the other group, the USA defeated Latvia 6:3 thanks to 4 points from Cole Caufield (2 goals, 2 assists) and secured second place, one point ahead of Germany. They will therefore face the Czech Republic on Thursday, while Germany will face Switzerland in the quarter-finals.
