The Vegas Golden Knights’ triumph is fresh as team owner Bill Foley wants more. It’s not enough to win the Stanley Cup once.
The Knights won the coveted trophy for the first time in their six-year history. But if Foley is to be believed, it clearly won’t be the last.
“We’re not done yet,” the owner said during a press conference on Friday. When (William) Karlsson agreed to an eight-year contract, I told him I expected three Stanley Cups during his contract term.
“[…] When we took the picture, I looked at him and said, “Okay, you have one.” (But) remember what I told you?
Karlsson and the Knights have no time to lose with four years left on his contract…and he has two more Stanley Cups to win.
However, the team’s general manager, Kelly McCrimmon, seems rather confident.
“We’ll have an easier time retaining the core of our Stanley Cup winning team than previous winners,” McCrimmon said.
The task certainly seems difficult for the Golden Knights, but not impossible.
The Tampa Bay Lightning won the 2020 and 2021 trophy, the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017, the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010, 2013 and 2015, and the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 and 2014.
