Calgary – Imperial Oil has reached an agreement with the American industrial natural gas company to supply low-carbon hydrogen for its renewable diesel complex near Edmonton.
Air Products, developed in Pennsylvania, is currently integrating a hydrogen plant in the same region. The deal would see hydrogen delivered by pipeline to Imperial Oil’s Strathcona refinery.

Air Products announced it will increase its total investment in the Edmonton hydrogen facility to $1.6 billion to fulfill the agreement with Imperial Oil.
Daily production is expected to be 165 million standard cubic feet when the plant opens in 2024, and about half of that volume will go to Imperial, the company added.
Imperial said its renewable diesel complex will be the largest facility of its kind in Canada, producing more than a trillion liters of low-carbon diesel per year.
