Canadians everywhere want to forget the pandemic and discover what the future holds. Strong and sustained economic growth is critical for our country to move beyond a return to pre-pandemic levels and narrow the gap with our global competitors. As drivers of job creation across the country, businesses are ready to work with government and parliamentarians to advance the policies needed to fuel growth.
Our country’s foreign policy plays a critical role in creating the conditions in which Canadian companies operate. Foreign policy and trade policy must work together to achieve common goals.
The Foreign Minister should:
- Work with the Minister of International Trade to improve Canada’s export licensing system to increase transparency with businesses and ensure service standards are met.
- We are revitalizing our bilateral relations with the United States, with a focus on capitalizing on new opportunities in defense, critical minerals, and regulatory cooperation, as well as countering U.S. buy-it policies. These activities should be accompanied by ongoing consultations with Canadian companies.
- Talk to Canadian companies about the future of our bilateral relations with China.
