How Paris is preparing to live (or avoid) below 50 degrees

EMERGENCY – An information and assessment mission of elected Parisian officials has just made 85 recommendations on how to adapt the city to the heatwaves that will increase, particularly with the creation of a Great Hot Plan modeled on the Great Cold Plan

Climate researchers say: By 2050 The capital could see temperatures approaching 50 degrees. After all, a village in Canada that is on the same latitude as Paris, experienced a temperature of 49.5 degrees in 2021. 24 hours later, the village was devastated by the fires caused by this extraordinary heat wave. Do we have to flee the cobbled megalopolis in 10 years?

To avoid such a situation, elected officials in Paris studied the issue for six months during an information and assessment mission (MIE) chaired by Alexandre Florentin of the Les Écologistes group. “I want to be able to continue living in Paris, I love the city, I don’t want to have to cook there or flee,” warns the President of the MIE, continuing: “There was a very small chance that something like a heat wave would come in 2021 Canada on. In relation to this uncertainty, we either close our eyes and cross our fingers while waiting for it to happen, or we prepare for it. In English we say
“Hope for the best, plan for the worst”: “Hope for the best, prepare for the worst”. »
