History repeats itself for Matvei Michkov.
Although not injured, he was sidelined in SKA Saint Petersburg’s second game of the season against Lada Togliatti on Monday.
The “Russian Connor McDavid” suffered the same fate in the opening match of the new campaign last Saturday against Dynamo Moscow.
Former Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk played on the front row in the first two games of the program. He had a point in his KHL debut. This time he was absent from SKA’s 3-0 win.
Michkov has been used very little lately. After playing just under eight minutes three games ago, he saw even less action (less than 5 minutes) in his last game, including just one appearance in the second period after forcing a turnover. He too was suspended from training during the pre-season calendar.
Despite his immense talent, Michkov was picked seventh overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the most recent NHL draft.
Some teams feared that his decision to stay in Russia would hurt his development. In the past, it was common for players drafted in the NHL, including Alexei Emelin, to be shunned in the KHL. Now we can add Michkov’s name to this list.
