Last week we created a deal offer to get your opinion on the idea of empowering youth Alexis Lafreniere of the New York Rangers in exchange for the Montreal Canadiens’ 1st round pick in 2024 if that pick was a 6th overall pick in the next draft.
The idea was picked up everywhere on blogs and social networks, so it found its way onto the radio.
Presenter today George Laraque decided to get wet and offer his opinion on such a transaction on the BPM Sports airwaves. Here’s what he had to say on the subject.
“Against the sixth pick overall? Yes, I like Lafrenière better. He’s 21, we’re talking about a disappointing season, but he has 40 points in 80 games, +10, 16 goals. At 21, still a point every two games. This.” The guy can explode and unlock. Tse with all the big guns that were with the Rangers anyway. Tarasenko and Kane came in and took all of Ice Age. It’s still +10 and 40 points in 80 games. Look with the Canadian how many players have scored 40 points and he is 21 years old. 6th overall? At first attempt!”
-Georges Laraque
Despite Lafrenière’s difficult playoffs, Laraque would not hesitate for a moment to sacrifice the 6th overall pick in the most spectacular draft of the last 10 years for the former 1st overall pick of 2020.
